Portuguese adds about 15–25% to your text length — similar to Spanish, and for the same reasons. Brazilian Portuguese tends to run slightly shorter than European Portuguese in practice, though the difference is small. What does matter: Portuguese has a rich set of nasal vowels (ã, õ) and accented characters that require full Latin Extended font support. If you've used a narrow sans-serif that only covers basic Latin, you'll see placeholder boxes where ã and ç should be.
