French annual reports, product catalogs, brochures — they all eventually need an English version. The good news: English is shorter than French, so your layout will actually have breathing room after translation. Upload your French IDML, pick English, and you're done in under 5 minutes.

English is 15–20% shorter than French, which means this is one of the most layout-friendly translation directions you can work with. Text frames that were perfectly fitted in French will have some extra white space in English. That's actually useful — you can increase leading, use a larger font size, or just leave the extra room. The one subtlety: French is a more formal language, and the AI sometimes produces English that reads slightly stiff. A light editorial pass on the opening paragraphs usually fixes it.
